1. How do I make an appointment with Peak Nutrition?
To make a sports or general nutrition appointment with Peak Nutrition please email (email address) or telephone (0868252648). Peak Nutrition also accepts referrals from GP’s Consultants and relevant health professionals. If you are referred from a GP or consultant we will contact you to make your appointment and we will also contact the GP or consultant to obtain relevant medical results that will enable us to perform a thorough assessment.
2. Is the price of a consultation covered by Health Insurance?
The dietitians at peak Nutrition are all fully qualified and registered members of INDI. Depending on your level of cover and price plans VHI, Quinn Healthcare, Hibernian Aviva cover costs towards a dietetic consultation. It is advisable to check with your individual health insurer.
Tax relief can also be claimed on fees using a Med 1 form which can be downloaded from www.revenue.ie.
3. What is involved in the Online diet management system?
The online dietary assessment is a unique development with Peak Nutrition. For a very reasonable set fee, the client or athlete has access to the dietitian all year round to ask questions and formulate diet plans via their own online template. Initially the client will follow a wizard to upload their details such as filling in diet histories and activity diaries, which the dietitian will analyse and all results will be uploaded onto the clients online template with advice on how to improve their diets and lifestyle to achieve their goals whether it is for weight loss or optimizing performance in sport. The client is also free to upload questions or submit a new diet for review all year round on their template with all answers and results posted on the template. This template remains confidential to the client through a username and password login.
The dietitian will also make contact with the client to obtain body composition measurements twice per year which will be incorporated into the template. For more details on the online system please contact (email and phone number).
4. Where is Peak Nutrition located?
Peak Nutrition is located in Limerick and in Dublin although we are also happy to travel to see clients and athletes in their own homes or sports clubs as required. Don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss individual needs.
5. How long does a consultation take?
Initial Consultations will generally take up to one hour depending on individual circumstances. Repeat consultations if necessary can take 30-45 minutes. The number of consultations varies depending on individual needs and can be determined at initial consultation.
6. What facility if provided for sports teams?
Depending on the level of service required, Peak Nutrition can provide individually tailored advice to each member of the team or we can facilitate presentations to teams on the important aspects of sports nutrition and we can also have question and answer sessions with the sports team. We also have the capacity to perform body composition analysis and hydration tests.
The online management system can also be a perfect solution for teams and we would be happy to discuss your needs.
7. What do I need to bring to the consultation?
On making your appointment you will be issued with a 5 day food and fluid diary which you should bring filled in so that we have a base line to start your dietary analysis. At the consultation you will also have your body consultation analysed.
Also bring details of any medications or nutritional supplements that you are currently taking.
8. What can a dietitian do for me?
General Nutrition – The dietitian can play a key role on advising on diet and lifestyle in order to lead a full and healthy life and manage weight and it can also advise on specific diets for the management of a wide range of disease.
Sports Nutrition – The sports dietitian can play a key role in optimizing performance. The sports dietitian will work with the specific athlete to tailor a diet that is specific to the sport as many sports require many different diets.
Family Nutrition – The dietitian can work with families to prepare recipes and schedules for making sure that the diet for the family is well balanced and providing all the suitable nutrients that a healthy diet should.
